Gerard kickstarted the motor-bike; both men
carried Enfield No 2 revolvers with their serial numbers filed off. Several had been stolen recently from Gough
Barracks in Armagh. Sowerbutt also had two Mills grenades in his pockets
which he had bought from his mate in the Tower Hamlets Rifles.
