Sowerbutt liked the story of the demise of the old Luton Town Hall. The Luton Tommies were not invited to a Victory lunch at the old town hall 20 years earlier and stood watching the local nobs filling their faces for free. The Tommies got the hump and rioted. The old town hall was sacked, set on fire and burnt down.
