The
quiet street which straggles across the north of Fakenham had never
seen so much activity since the local builder had subdivided the fields and
begun building in the early 1920s. Two
Bedford MLs had pulled up across the street where it joined one of the main
roads out of town; a bren-gun carrier blocked the street half-way down.
